This is the site of a new bridge built across the ford here. While the details regarding the fate of the last bridge are somewhat hazy, it appears that a group of adventurers emptied a wand of fireballs into a group of trolls that were charging out of the water toward them. By the time the smoke and flames had cleared, the old wooden bridge was gone.
