Delimbyir Vale |
|
Delimbyir Vale actually refers to an area of land that surrounds the Delimbyir Riveralso known as the Shining Riverand its tributaries. The Vale reaches as far south as the western-most borders of the South Wood to its headwater in the Nether Mountains.
This clear, cool river forms the eastern and southern boundaries of the High Forest as it runs over a thousand miles from its headwaters in the Nether Moutains to the sea west of Daggerford. The River Shining is fast-flowing with mintsweet, drinkable water and is home to many szorp: brown, trout-like fish with tasty white flesh. It is navigable from its mouth to Loudwater, and from above the Shining Falls to its headwaters.
Once long ago this was a city called Elven Port. It was a small dock city of the land of Eaerlann on the Delimbyir. The elves and the humans of Netheril traded with each other, and this was the river port. The river shore south of here once was farmland of the forest elves. But those are ancient tales. The elves most of them left long, long ago and this is no more than an abandoned ruin of a city - it's buildings crumbled to dust and broken remains of stone.
What was once an outpost and portage road for eastern Eaerlann is now simply a light deer path at the top of a high, spectacular horseshoe falls. Legends tell of a hidden entrance to the tomb of the dwarven royalty of Ammarindar (a dwarven contemporary of Netheril) beneath the torrential waters of the Shining Falls. In truth, the tombs are long since plundered, and only Zhent-sponsored brigands use the caves behind the falls as hideouts.
While the falls normally end the upward travel of folk on the River Delimbiyr, the Zhents of Llorkh and Orlbar have spent the past two years re-establishing a portage here in attempts to reach Sundabar. With Hellgate Keep's fall, the Zhents are that much more eager to open up these connections. To their dismay, the treants stationed at the forest by the Heartblood River fork prevent them from exploiting this avenue.
