Character Development

OOC: The following exchange was done privately between the players of Milo and Ceely, who then sent the end result to me - simply as "character development".

Ceely sat as the evening progressed, watching Milo from time to time as he carved the wood in front of the fire. She said almost nothing as her mind seemed otherwise occupied. Mulling over in her mind the question she wondered if she dared ask. Well past midnight, as the party continued in the great room, Ceely headed upstairs to their room and sat on the floor before the fireplace, her back leaning against the nearest wall as she stared at the flames.

When Milo entered she looked at him for a moment then again to the fire.....

Milo was surprised to see Ceely sitting on the floor, instead of the comfort of a chair or the bed. He knew she had had a hard life on the seas, and that the minor discomfort to her body was a minor distraction. She seemed to be concentrating on the fire and Milo wondered what she could see in the flames.

"I don't ever want to loose you" she said softly still looking towards the flames...."Do you remember what I said by the frozen water?"

Milo stopped in mid track. Dropping his tools and piece of wood he'd been playing with all night, and looked at Ceely. "I remember much of that and other times we have spent together"

She waited a moment then continued..."I love you Milo, with all my heart....I've never felt this way about another"

Again Milo was taken aback. He hesitated and then sank to his knees alongside her. He had always hoped that his feelings for her were reciprocated, and to hear it from her own lips had Milo's heart leaping. He moved his hands to take hers.

She looked at last towards him to see what his features might tell her of his feelings.......

"I love you Ceely, with my very soul, and it gladdens me that you feel the same." Taking her hands he moves closer to her and places a gentle kiss against her lips. "You are like the sun to my mornings, and the moon to my nights. Essential. I would think of nothing more lovely than to spend the rest of my life with you." Milo felt his heart swell as he said the things that had been in his heart for so long.
Ceely blushed slightly as she looked at him, her water eyes filling with tears of joy..."I wasn't sure, I hoped, but wasn't sure " She leaned in and returned his kiss. I am yours Milo, as long as we both shall live, I am yours and you are mine...."She paused a moment then stood slowly, leading him to the bed ........

After a night of lovemaking she lay in his arms as the sun rose, listening to his soft, rhythmic breathing, thinking of their future together. They were so different in many ways, but wasn't the old saying that 'opposites attract'? Should they tell the others? Or was it none of their business? Would it effect their travels? She had so many questions yes all these were forgotten as she curled up against him listening to the sounds of the inn below......
