Visiting the Silver Scroll again - (Flamerule 4th)
At the Silver Scroll, they meet with Xara Tantlor again. Here, Lucretia hands
over the two containers containing the chemical sacks from the giant
Bombardier beetle the group had defeated. Somewhat surprised that
Lucretia had come through with something from the list she had given
him, Xara duly paid the 250gp that she had promised. Blondung, examining
the list, grunts. "At 200gp each, it's a shame we didn't skin
those quaggoths..." he mutters. Xara raises an eyebrow at that,
curious about their exploits.

Xara raised an eyebrow. "Ancient dwarven stronghold you say?" A slight frown crosses her brow. "Never heard of it, but then again, I'm no expert on dwarves!"

"The Moonwood?" she says, her eyes widening slightly. "An ancient wood that is" she says, shaking her head slightly. "Almost sentient some say..." Seeing Blondung's disbelieving look, she shrugs slightly. "I didn't say I believed them!"
Turning back to Serena, she purses her lips, her brow furrowed in thought. "Well, to be honest, I'm not sure what sort of creatures you might find in the Moonwood that would be useful to me..." Her eyebrows lift and she smiles slightly. "Although now I think of it, there is one thing I do need, or should I say I have a client who needs it for a spell he'd like to cast."
She leans forward slightly, glancing between Serena and Lucretia. "I need the blood from a Gorgon."
Blondung snorts, making Xara frown up at him briefly.
"The gorgon is like a bit like a bull..." she starts, only to be interrupted by Blondung again.
"Yeah, a bit like a dragon is like a lizard" he says sarcastically.
Frowning again at Blondung, Xara continues. "...But it is a magical creature, with dangerous properties. It has hides of metal plates, and teeth that can grind up stone..."
"Don't forget it's breath" interjects Blondung again.
"What makes it particularly dangerous however, is it's breath..."
continues Xara, now ignoring Blondung. "It's breath will petrify
you."
Seeing Lucretia's disbelieving look, she hurries on. "I don't mean scare
you, I mean literally petrify you, turn you to solid stone..."
Straightening, Xara straightens the things on her counter. "I heard a
rumour from someone who returned from the Moonwood a month ago or
so.
They said they had become completely lost in the woods, but at one point had
come across a region where they found a petrified deer with it's fawn."
She gestures over Serena's shoulder to a shelf. An incredibly life like delicate
stone statue of a baby fawn stood on it, standing almost a foot high. "They
couldn't carry the mother one" she says simply. "They also found crumbled
stone here and there, as if other statues had perhaps been broken up..."
She shrugs. "Of course, if you were to search out such a creature, you'd
best take some precautions against it's breath weapon." A grin
appears on her face. "I could sell you a scroll of Protection
from Petrification if you wish...but it will cost you 200 Electrum
Moons,
(OOC: i.e. 200gp)". She smiles more warmly. "If you make it back with
the gorgon blood, plus a scale or two from it's hide, I'll refund the cost of
the scroll and pay you handsomely. Find a good armourer, and he could make some
very good armour from it's hide too."

Xara cocks her head. "Well, there is an unseen servant spell, which brings a minor air elemental under the mages's control..."

Xara laughs. "I'm afraid magic is more complex than that - such a spell
would only be a short term spell... Trying to make such a spell permanent
- that would be nigh on impossible - a very high level spell of some
sort!"

Xara purses her lips. "I didn't think you were the type to get spooked by dreams!" she says after a moment's thought. "It is possible for powerful mages to affect people's dreams, but it's not common magic, and I'd think it's probably quite unlikely."
She also provides some insight into the drow weapons and and chain mail. "I've
never seen them before, but I've heard tales that they eventually
become brittle if exposed to sunlight" she tells the group. "The
boots and cloak should be OK though." Seeing the miniature crossbow,
she whistles softly. "That is a fine piece of craftsmanship!"
she tells them. "I may be able to find a buyer for that, I'd
expect you'd be able to get maybe 300gp for that..." She hesitates,
then asks "I understand the drow use a powerful sleep poison..."
she says slowly. "Would you by any chance still have some of
that?"
