Yvandel does another Puppet Show at the Sprite's Refuge

As Balnor relates his tale about what happened outside, Yvandel decides to lift the atmosphere of the inn.

Shornik smiles, glad that someone is doing something to lighten the mood. The others in the bar look around interested, and a couple of wagers are seen to pass hands.

Seemly unconcerned, Yvandel starts to eat great big mouthfuls of bread, washing it down with large gulps of water. Even his friends are surprised when the puppets start to speak in clear and coherent tones.

(VOLO) "Boy, our master must be hungry. Look at him chew that bread down!"

(DOLO) "Is he actually chewing it though? Looks to me like he's just swallowing it whole!"

(VOLO) "And he seems mighty thirsty too. That water won't last long, the way he's drinking it."

(DOLO) "Remember when he once drank so much water that his stomach got bigger? So big, that his clothes almost couldn't keep it contained?"

(VOLO) "Wasn't that something. Say, Dolo, wouldn't it be funny if we'd just shut up now, completely ruining the challenge?"

Yvandel, in mid swallow of water, simply frowns at the two puppets, unable to speak himself.

(DOLO) "Funny... yes. But not fair. Our master takes good care of us. If only he'd give us some of that bread to eat. I'm starving!"

Yvandel looks both startled and incredulous at the suggestion that the puppet eat the bread, and quickly puts down his drink and grabs the last piece of bread, stuffing it into his mouth until it is all crammed in, crumbs dropping all over the table.

(VOLO) "Oh you silly. Puppets don't eat bread. We only eat the finest of the finest... And since there's no such thing, that's exactly what we eat: nothing."

(DOLO) "Sure wish I could eat something. Human beings really seem to enjoy eating."

Yvandel, having difficulty in swallowing the large mouthful of bread doesn't seem to be enjoying it and looks at the puppet as if it is mad.

(VOLO) "Not as much as they seem to enjoy drinking. Especially when their drinks contain alcohol... Isn't that right, fellows?"

Yvandel finally swallows the bread and starts to wash it down with water.

(DOLO) "Looks like our master is finally full."

(VOLO) "So, when's this challenge going to start? I still don't really get what the challenge was all about. Why would it be hard for us to talk while our master is drinking and eating?"

(DOLO) "Perhaps they think that we only say what our master tells us to say."

(VOLO) "Ha, that'll be the day. If I had to wait to have him tell me what to say, I'd probably be silent most of the time. Then again, YOU would probably be a lot more fun to talk to..."

(DOLO) "I take no offence from insults from ignorants like you, Volo. You're wasting your time."

Yvandel coughs and splutters a few times. "Hmm, must've swallowed that water a little too fast. Well, it seems like yours truly is not all that hungry or thirsty anymore. It was good bread Shornik - my thanks to Paskar. Maybe I'll have some more in the morning. I'm afraid I must retire now. We plan on moving along in the morning, and I need my beauty sleep. I know... I REALLY need it." Yvandel laughed.

The ice is broken again, and laughter and quiet conversation once more fill the inn. Several members of the other party call wildly for more, but Yvandel demurs and heads off to bed.

Balnor heads off to bed, followed by Cleo, and soon after by most of the other members of the party.
